What are the best Project 22 cards to collect? Project 22 is another interesting soccer set, with some of the more noteworthy designs I’ve seen in recent years. What can you expect from the artist-inspired soccer collection?

Topps and UEFA have tasked 22 artists with making ‘the most creative football trading card set ever produced’. To their credit, it’s an eye-catching collection, released weekly to ensure print runs remain low.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Project 22 set, with key stats, a checklist, and the top cards to look out for.

Topps Project 22: Key Stats

The Best Topps Project 22 Cards

Here are five top picks if you’re looking for the best Project 22 cards;

5. Topps Project 22 Kylian Mbappe by Dan Leydon (eBay)

Kylian Mbappe is one of the most renowned strikers in world football, and has probably yet to hit his peak with PSG. He has three cards in the Project 22 collection, such as the option created by Dan Leydon, which can be seen above. Expect to pay at least three figures for one of the numbered parallels.

4. Topps Project 22 Cristiano Ronaldo By Mike Perry (eBay)

Cristiano Ronaldo might have left Manchester United for the shores of Saudi Arabia, but the legendary forward was included three times during the early weeks of Project 22. Each has a print run in the four figure range, so they should be easy to find on the resale market. They’re likely to be some of the final MUFC Ronaldo cards released during his playing career.

3. Topps Project 22 Lionel Messi by Tyson Beck (eBay)

Lionel Messi is arguably the biggest name in world football, with a trio of options found in the Project 22 collection. The first card is designed by Tyson Beck, and can be seen in the image above. Released back in week one, the card does have one of the highest print runs overall, so only the parallels are especially valuable.

2. Topps Project 22 Gavi by John Guydo (eBay)

Gavi had impressed during his time at Barcelona, belying his young age to compete at the highest level. He has already been included twice in the Project 22 set, with the second card seen in the image above. Either should be seen as a decent option, although the Week 1 card has a significantly higher print run.

1. Topps Project 22 Mykhaylo Mudryk by Bo Feng-Lin (eBay)

Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk has been included twice in Project 22.

Bo Feng-Lin is his first entry in the illustrated collection. (Mudryk can be found for a second time in Week 26.) This card only has 888 copies, alongside a few numbered parallels. Interestingly, you can’t see his neck tattoo, and he’s in the orange and black of Shakhtar.

Mudryk has since joined Chelsea in a major deal reported to be worth €70m ($75.84m).

Topps Project 22 Cards: Final Thoughts

I wasn’t sure about Project 22 when it first came out, but I do wish that I grabbed some of the early sets in hindsight. The artwork is second to none if you’re looking at soccer collectibles, and there’s a good combo of rookies, legends, and the biggest stars in the game.

The cards are reassuringly thick, with a premium look and feel that justifies the higher asking price. There’s also a chance of a rare parallel if you’re interested in buying the latest weekly cards directly from Topps.
