Dennis Rodman is a unique and controversial figure, best known for being a five-time NBA champion.

In 14 NBA seasons, Dennis Rodman played in 911 games, scored 6,683 points, and grabbed 11,954 rebounds, averaging 7.3 points and 13.1 rebounds in 31.7 minutes over his career.

Following the end of his playing days, Rodman became an actor and a reality star, and attracted international attention for his visits to North Korea and his subsequent befriending of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in 2013.

His later exploits may overshadow his basketball career, but he was supremely talented on the court. Here’s everything you need to know about the best Dennis Rodman cards.

The Best Dennis Rodman Cards

Rodman’s RC doesn’t make the list, but here are five great options for collectors to look out for.

5. 1996 EX E-X 2000 A Cut Above Dennis Rodman #10 (eBay)

1996 EX E-X 2000 A Cut Above Dennis Rodman #10

The 1996 Skybox E-X2000 A Cut Above insert is definitely a product of its era, evidenced by the choice of font and the circular saw background.

That’s not a bad thing by any means, as it shows Rodman in his prime for the Bulls, clutching the ball at his chest. Just ten players were selected to feature, while they were released at a rate of 1:288 packs.

It means that they’re reasonably rare as of 2021, especially when looking at higher grades.

4. 1997-98 Flair Showcase Legacy Row 0 Dennis Rodman #13 (eBay)

You’ll find another strong Rodman option contained in 1996-97 Flair Showcase sets. Each base card features a trio of “Rows,” with a different image for each one.

We’re focusing on the Legacy parallel for each Row, which is numbered to 100. You can see the Row 0 example above. (As with many older cards, the serial number is found on the reverse in large lettering.)

It’s another card with the perfect mix of age and scarcity helping to drive value.

3. 1997-98 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Dennis Rodman #107 #/100 (eBay)

On the subject of value, there’s the 1997-98 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems (PMG) parallel which is worthy of any collection. A famous set within the hobby, the red version has a print run of 90. There is also a green version limited to only 10 cards.

Did we mention that the crisp foil finish is especially susceptible to any flaws? It’s the king of 1990’s Rodman cards, but PMGs don’t come up for sale all that often.

2. 2014-15 Panini Flawless Finishes Dennis Rodman #FFDR (eBay)

Now, for something a little different. The 2014-15 Panini Flawless Finishes card has been signed by the man himself, and features the player for the Bulls in a classic red jersey.

The base card is limited to 20 copies, while there are a further four parallels. It might be the most recent release to make the list, but it manages to hold its own.

Parallels: Ruby #/15, Gold #/10, Emerald #/5, Black 1/1

1. 2007-08 UD Exquisite Finalists Dennis Rodman Michael Jordan #FAJR (eBay)

We got all this way without mentioning Michael Jordan

This popular Exquisite autograph pairs Rodman with his former Bulls teammate, which ups the ante in terms of value. Only 25 were produced, and they have been hand-signed by the players.

Rodman is pictured during his time with the Detroit Pistons, and it’ll cost as much as a decent car if you’re looking at graded copies. Rodman collectibles are valuable enough as it is before you add MJ into the mix.

Dennis Rodman Cards: Buyers Guide

Dennis Rodman was controversial back in the 1990’s, mostly because he dyed his hair and had various piercings and tattoos. Attitudes are far more relaxed as of 2021, where Rodman is considered as a player and a celebrity.

Strangely, Rodman’s 1988 Fleer RC is one of the cheapest graded options you’ll find, with a PSA 9 selling for roughly $200 on average. (However, this makes more sense when you realise there are 2,246 PSA 9 copies, and over 200 PSA 10s.)

It was overproduced, and supply still exceeds demand. It’s still a good entry point into the hobby.

We’d opt for the dual auto MJ card if money was no object, closely followed by either of the PMG cards. Despite his controversial status, Rodman is one of the safer bets when it comes to players from the era. Of course, this means that values are always reasonably high.

Dennis Rodman Cards: Buying/Selling Advice

Rodman is a throwback, and even finds it hard to watch modern NBA games due to a lack of physicality

“I don’t know, it’s just very hard to watch because once you’ve played the game the way we played it, intensity, just competitiveness,” Rodman said via Clutch Points. “But now it’s more like you know I don’t want to watch players coming down shooting 50 footers. That’s not basketball.”

He always made his best to leave an impact on the court, but he also left a lasting impression with many fans.

Rodman was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame in 2011, so his cards are one of the safer options on the market right now. They’re great to hold onto, while they’re always likely to attract attention at auction when a rare card is up for sale.
