Kurt Warner is one of the few players to go from an undrafted free agent to a two-time Most Valuable Player and Super Bowl MVP, in an incredible 12-year NFL career.

Having retired in 2000, Warner was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017.

Here’s a roundup with five of top Kurt Warner rookie cards to collect, including early serial numbered autographs.

The Best Kurt Warner Rookie Cards

Kurt Warner rookie cards were released in 1999, so the cards are slightly dated by today’s standards. Regardless, we’ve narrowed it down to five of the best overall.

5. 1999 Bowman’s Best Kurt Warner RC #110 (eBay)

1999 Bowman’s Best Kurt Warner RC #110

We’ll begin with 1999 Bowman’s Best. Instantly recognizable as the only Warner RC printed on chrome stock, a duo of parallels increase the overall rarity substantially.

In fact, they work out to be some of the rarest options overall, with only 400 Refractors, and 100 Atomic Refractors. (You’ll find an example of the latter above.)

That means there should be an option to suit almost every budget.

  • Parallels: Refractors (#/400), Atomic Refractors (#/100)

4. 1999 Collector’s Edge First Place Kurt Warner RC #201 /500 (eBay)

Back in 1999, a run of 2,000 was considered to be a short print for an NFL card. Therefore, the Kurt Warner RC limited to just 500 copies seen in 1999 Collector’s Edge is the rarest base card with a known print run, and a viable card to chase.

The 1999 Collector’s Edge First Place Warner RC is hand numbered on the reverse, although the same can’t be said for either of the Promo Gold or Promo Silver parallel versions. This time, we’d stick with the base rookie.

  • Parallels: Promo Gold, Promo Silver

3. 1995 Taco John’s Iowa Barnstormers Kurt Warner #13 (eBay)

If you don’t mind an XRC, Mexican chain Taco John’s was the sponsor for Iowa Barnstormers AFL trading cards way back in 1995. This makes for one of the earliest Kurt Warner collectibles committed to cardboard, and it can be hard to track down in the present.

Some collectors aren’t fond of XRCs, especially if they’re unlicensed. However, we think that it’s a quirky option with good potential as a long-term hold.

2. 1999 Collector’s Edge Pro Signatures Authentics Kurt Warner #/500 (eBay)

A great auto from 1999 Collector’s Edge, you’ll find Warner’s signature on a white football in the middle that serves as the signature area. (On many versions, he’s also added a 13, to match his jersey number.)

It’s another great pick released before the turn of the millennium, especially with a print run of just 500.

1. 1999 Playoff Contenders Kurt Warner RC Autograph #146 (eBay)

The 1999 Playoff Contenders Masters Kurt Warner rookie card is our top pick overall.

In terms of design, it’s a simple Rookie Ticket, sticking with a tried and tested formula. There’s also an on-card signature underneath the image of Warner, filled in black ink.

Then there’s the rarity seen with the colored parallels. Red, Blue, and Gold up the rarity and value significantly.

  • Parallels: SSD Speed Red (#/100), SSD Power Blue (#/50), SSD Finesse Gold (#/25)

Kurt Warner Rookie Cards: Buyers Guide

Here are our thoughts on the current state of the market for the best Kurt Warner rookie cards.

Given the sheer number of cards that were printed, you’ll have no trouble picking up more affordable Warner rookies. Ungraded copies are often far cheaper, but you’ll struggle to find many signed RCs for less than $200.

If we could only choose one of the five listed above, we’d look to the rare parallels seen with The 1999 Playoff Contenders Masters Kurt Warner rookie card. We think that it has the greatest potential for profit in the future.

Kurt Warner Rookie Cards: Final Thoughts

Warner has one of the better stories when looking at Hall of Fame quarterbacks, and he captained two teams to the Super Bowl.

After all, everyone seems to know that he worked the graveyard shift stocking shelves at a supermarket so he could stay in football shape during the day while chasing his dream.

Given his popularity, the rarest Warner rookie cards have remained popular since his retirement. They look to be a decent long-term hold.
