There’s a massive market for Michael Jordan autograph cards. It’s no surprise, given he’s arguably the basketball GOAT, that has transcended the hobby in terms of values and importance. After all, almost everyone has some idea of what the average signed Michael Jordan card is worth, at least to some extent. 

With so many top options to choose from, it’s hard to make a definitive list of the best signed Jordan cards ever produced. Autos have been coming out since 1996, while the player has been an exclusive Upper Deck spokesman for years.

Here’s a rundown with some of the best Michael Jordan autograph cards to collect. Each one stands out from the crowd, making for some of the most coveted collectibles in existence.

9. 1996 SPx Michael Jordan Autograph (eBay)

Jordan’s first ever signed basketball card, the 1996 SPx is a real piece of history. Best of all, this die-cut release comes with an on-card auto. It’s tough to find on the market at any given time. The nature of the die-cut also makes it difficult to locate in mint condition. 

The relationship between Jordan and Upper Deck dates back to 1992. MJ made a deal with the company to be their spokesman, with various valuable cards released over the years. It features Jordan as part of his time spent with the Chicago Bulls.

8. 1997-98 Upper Deck Game Jersey Michael Jordan Autograph #GJ13 (eBay)

Another deserving collectible as the first Michael Jordan game-used jersey card, this 1997-98 Upper Deck card was found at a rate of 1:55,000 packs. It should give you a better idea of how difficult it was to find. The majority have since made their way to grading companies like PSA and BGS. Once again, it has been signed in blue ink by the man himself. The patch is basic compared to modern sets, but there’s no denying its importance within the hobby.

7. 1999-00 Upper Deck HoloGrFX Shoetime Autograph Michael Jordan #MJA #/23 (eBay)

The 1999-00 Upper Deck HoloGrFX Shoetime Autograph is an experimental Michael Jordan autograph card from the turn of the millennium. As the name implies, it contains a shoe relic. (It’s not bad considering the famous Air Jordan brand.)

Base NBA Shoetime cards were released at a rate of 1:431 packs, which is reasonably rare. Then there are the signed versions, limited to the player’s shirt number. This means there are just 23 copies of this Michael Jordan card.

6. 2000-01 SP Game Floor Authentic Floor Autographs Michael Jordan #MJA /23 (eBay)

2000-01 SP Game Floor Authentic is another rare signed card limited to Jordan’s famous jersey number. As the name implies, it contains an authentic piece of basketball floor in which Michael Jordan played on during an NBA game. Once again, it makes for a unique design, and high sale prices. Strangely, the serial number is found on the auto segment, and some signatures have faded ever so slightly, as seen in the example above. There’s also a cheaper unsigned version, also lacking the serial number.

5. 2000-01 Ultimate Collection Signatures Gold Michael Jordan #MJG Autograph #/25 (eBay)

The 2000-01 Ultimate Signatures card is a famous collectible, numbered to only 25 copies. Jordan signed the Upper Deck Ultimate Collection “Ultimate Signatures” Gold collectible in blue ink, and you’ll find the serial number on the front of the card. The red and white design is given a slick gold finish. It’ll be tough to locate, and it’s another valuable option.

4. 2003-04 UD Glass 1-2 Combo Jersey Autographs LeBron James, Michael Jordan #LJMJ #/10 (eBay)

What about if we increase the star power considerably by adding LeBron James to the mix? The 2003-04 UD Glass card is one of a number of dual autos featuring Jordan, and they’re always going to be seen as a major hit. It’s the only LeBron RC to combine signatures and swatches with MJ23.

This Combo Jersey has it all, although it’s limited to only 10 copies. It’s another that is difficult to locate at the best of times.

3. 2005-06 Exquisite Michael Jordan Autographed Patch Cards (eBay)

Next up are the 2005-06 Upper Deck Exquisite Michael Jordan autographed patch cards.

The Exquisite brand is always seen as a premium release, arguably never more so when there’s an on-card Jordan auto attached. A valuable MJ card with a multicolored patch, you’ll find a serial number in the top left corner. Once again, this is one of the more popular cards within the hobby.

2. 2006 Sweet Spot Update Spokesmen Signatures Michael Jordan #4  /20 (eBay)

Michael Jordan’s foray into baseball wasn’t the most inspiring run, but it did give us a couple of unique collectibles to chase. For example, the 2006 UD Sweet Spot Update Spokesman Signatures Michael Jordan card is limited to 20 copies, and it’s all about the auto with this release.

1. 2008-09 SkyBox Paraph Signatures Michael Jordan #PSKD (eBay)

The most recent of the Michael Jordan autograph cards to make the list, the 2008-09 SkyBox Paraph is a simple option, featuring an image of Jordan found in a squared box at the top. The card has a gold and white color scheme, using a classic photo of the most famous baller of all time. Another SP, the majority of copies have already been graded over the last 15 years.

Are you interested in picking up a Michael Jordan auto? Here’s what we think of the current shape of the market for some of the best collectibles within the hobby. 

It’s tough to find a cheaper Jordan auto, unless you’re looking at cards that were hand-signed by the player on a later date. The best autographed Michael Jordan cards are definitely a premium collectible to chase, and it’s likely to be out of reach for most of us. 

Given the high prices, we’d also be wary of any fakes or forgeries that have made their way onto the market. It’s another reason to stick with graded options if possible. The same goes for the famous 1986 Fleer rookie card, which is exceptionally valuable at higher grades. 

The best Jordan autographs are some of the most valuable cards you’ll find within the hobby. This is especially true if they’ve been graded by the likes of PSA or BGS

Considering the low print runs for some of the cards seen above, you might have to wait for years to see copies making their way onto the market. There’s no doubt that demand exceeds supply for his rarest basketball memorabilia.

Michael Jordan Autograph Cards: Final Thoughts 

There are numerous Michael Jordan autograph cards that are worth more than the average mortgage. They also tend to be some of the most coveted options overall. With hundreds of cards released over the years, you’re spoiled for choice if you’re looking for autographed cards featuring MJ23.

Of course, values rise rapidly if you’re looking at serial numbered versions, or one of the sports cards released before the year 2000. Michael Jordan memorabilia is big business, especially for card investors in the current card market. 

In part, it’s because almost everyone will have some idea of who Jordan is, and his various accomplishments. He still holds the NBA records for career regular season scoring average (30.12 points per game) and career playoff scoring average (33.45 points per game).

It’s going to be tough to think of many collectibles that are better in terms of investment potential, as it seems like everyone still wants to be like Mike. There’s always going to be a solid market for the best Jordan autographs, including modern cards and vintage options.
