3. 2021 Topps Once Upon a Time in Queens Mike Tyson visits the Mets #MT-A (eBay)

The 2021 Topps ‘Once Upon a Time in Queens’ set was released September 2021 to coincide with an ESPN 30 for 30 documentary. One of the autos features Mike Tyson, with a base edition numbered to 125. 

The text at the bottom reads; ‘Heavyweight goes toe-to-toe with the Mets’, while it has been designed using the 1986 Topps set as a primer. 

As a Tyson auto that is still reasonably new, the price hasn’t settled yet. That means there could be good opportunities to find a copy before the majority are sent off to be graded.

2. 1987 A Question of Sport Mike Tyson (eBay)

A Question of Sport is a popular TV quiz produced by the BBC. They released a number of board games during the 1980’s, including Tyson in a great action shot in their 1987 edition. 

As there’s no unified boxing organisation, hobby boxes are often few and far between. This means that the QoS card is one of the earliest to feature the fighter. It sells for a decent sum when looking at higher grades.  

1. 1986 Panini Supersport Italian Boxing Mike Tyson RC #153 (eBay)

In terms of prestige and importance, only one sticker beats the options seen above. 

The 1986 Panini Supersport Italian set features stars from a host of different sports and disciplines, including Tyson in their list of pugilists. 

The ‘baddest man on the planet’ is shown mid-interview in a profile shot, with the mic barely visible on the right hand side. As an Italian sticker from the mid-1980’s, there aren’t many pristine copies in the present day.

Tyson doesn’t have as many cards and stickers as you might expect, especially if you’re looking for options released during his career as a fighter. For example, the 1987 NES game ‘Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!’ sells for over $1,000 when looking at copies in decent condition. That’s how valuable early Tyson merch is for fans, and demand seems to exceed supply.

Of the trio of cards to make the list, the 2021 auto is by far the most affordable considering it’s so rare and it’s been signed by the man himself. On the other hand, ungraded versions of the QoS card can be grabbed for anywhere between $50-$100. That’s not bad for a Tyson RC.

For investment purposes, we’d stick with the 1986 Supersport sticker, released just 12 months after Tyson’s professional debut as an 18-year-old. The majority were likely affixed to books, rather than being kept and held.
