The First Edition Blue-Eyes White Dragon is one of the most popular Yu-Gi-Oh! cards of all-time.

Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon is the first ever set from the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. It was released back in March 2002, with English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Asian-English, and Korean versions of the card.

What is a First Edition Blue-Eyes White Dragon?

First Edition cards mean that they were part of the initial print run, rather than versions that were reprinted afterwards. (The same is true for books and other collectibles, with first editions selling for a premium.)

In practice, you can sometimes tell the difference due to stamps or small markings. In the case of cards from the Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon set, there’s a square foil stamp in the bottom right corner of Yu-Gi-Oh’s ‘Eye of Anubis’ symbol. That foil square is gold on a 1st Edition card, and silver on an Unlimited Edition card.

As the focus of the ‘Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon’ set and the cover card, Blue-Eyes White Dragon is always going to be a valuable option.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Blue-Eyes White Dragon 1st Edition LOB-001: Values

How much is a first edition Blue-Eyes White Dragon worth?

It’ll depend on the overall condition, and whether or not it’s been graded by one of the bigger companies such as PSA or BGS. As a rule, the better the condition, the more you’re going to be likely to pay.

For example, a PSA 6 version recently sold for four figures.

A PSA 10 copy sold for $55,100 in May 2021.

The price of ungraded copies will also depend on the overall condition of the card.

If you’d prefer a cheaper option, later prints are available for a fraction of the price of 1st Edition copies.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Blue-Eyes White Dragon 1st Edition LOB-001: Buyers Guide

There aren’t many Gem Mint graded copies of the 2002 Blue-Eyes White Dragon, but the various language variations ensure that there are lots of 1st Edition cards on the market. The English version is still the one to collect, and has a premium price tag accordingly.

(With the largest potential market to sell to, English cards tend to be the most popular overall.)

  • There’s been a slight lull in the market since a peak midway through 2021, so prices should be a little cheaper compared to the all-time highs seen in the past
  • Given the number of reprints, we’d stick with graded versions whenever possible
  • Be wary of non-1st Edition versions being passed off as the real deal – check for the gold box

Yu-Gi-Oh! Blue-Eyes White Dragon 1st Edition LOB-001: Final Thoughts

Whether you’re just getting into the hobby, or you’re a pro Yu-Gi-Oh! card collector, the First Edition Blue-Eyes White Dragon is a great place to start.

It has a heap of nostalgic value, and should be a worthwhile long-term hold, while there aren’t many others which can match it when it comes to importance within the TCG.
