Giovanni Reyna plies his trade for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, having made his breakthrough in 2020. Reyna is the youngest American ever to appear in the Bundesliga, breaking a record previously set by Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic.

The first card to make the list is a valuable patch auto found in 2019-20 Topps Museum Collection Bundesliga. An offshoot of the traditional multi-league Museum Collection, it’s similar in terms of overall design. 

Reyna is featured on six cards within the set, including this signed Momentous Material Jumbo Relic. It’s a stickered auto, and there’s a trio of numbered parallels to chase.

4. 2019 Topps UCL Living Set Giovanni Reyna (eBay)

We’ve written about the Topps UCL Living set in-depth, as it’s one of our favorite options if you’re looking for cut-price options with a vintage look and feel. The art style isn’t going to be for everyone, but it comes with a print run of 5,867.

Topps notes that these; “hand-drawn cards by Musa Drammeh capture the icons of the game in beautiful detail and are featured in the iconic and collector-favorite “Topps 1977/78 Footballers” trading card design.”

3. 2019-20 Topps Chrome Bundesliga International Flair Giovanni Reyna (eBay)

Next up is the International Flair insert from 2019-20 Topps Chrome Bundesliga. 

As the name implies, International Flair highlights players that hail from outside Germany. It’s another affordable release, as Giovanni Reyna wasn’t included as one of the Autographs from the subset. The insert also lacks an RC logo.

As the first Giovanni Reyna rookie card in a retail release, only the Refractor parallels are worth major money. However, it is one of the more popular brands within the hobby.

The 2019-20 Topps Now USA Tour mini set contains Gio Reyna’s true rookie card, released as part of the Topps set for Borussia Dortmund’s pre-season tour of the United States. 

Reyna made his debut on US-soil in Dortmund’s pre-season friendly against Seattle Sounders FC. With a print run of 46, you’ll be lucky to find a copy for sale. 

As Reyna’s first ever card, it has to be seen as the best option to collect overall.

Giovanni Reyna Rookie Cards: Buyers Guide 

What do we think of the current state of the market for Gio Reyna rookie cards as we head into the 2022/23 season? 

There are numerous cheaper Gio Reyna RCs on the market, including the Living Set release, as well as the International Flair insert. 

From an investment perspective, it’s hard to go wrong with either of the cards that make up the top two. His true USA Tour RC is hyper-rare, valuable, and tough to locate. However, the same is true for Reyna’s Topps Chrome Bundesliga parallels, especially if they’re numbered to 99 or below.

Giovanni Reyna Rookie Cards: Final Thoughts 

Reyna could be the focal point of the USMNT by the time the World Cup is hosted in the US in 2026, while he has a chance to make an impact in Qatar this winter. 

A player with immense talent, Reyna has a list of rare rookie card parallels to chase, along with more attainable options for the average collector. 

However, he missed 32 of Dortmund’s 46 matches in all competitions in 2021/22, with a series of muscle injuries bringing the attacking midfielder’s season to a premature conclusion in April. It’s a worry for collectors, especially as he’s so young. 

His temperament and talent will count for little if injuries keep him off the pitch for extended periods. As one of the best American players of his generation, there’s a massive potential resale market if Gio Reyna lives up to his potential.
