Arguably the biggest name in F1, Max Verstappen is the youngest points scorer and the youngest race winner in history. 

Having made his debut in 2016, Verstappen won his first F1 drivers’ title in 2021 after it went down to the wire. 

He overtook rival Lewis Hamilton on the last lap of the race to snatch the lead, the victory, and the 2021 Formula 1 Drivers’ World Championship.

5. 2020 Topps Chrome Max Verstappen #6 (eBay)

Let’s start with 2020 Topps Chrome Formula 1 Racing. The debut release for the F1 set, it contains an astonishing 17 Max Verstappen cards, from base copies to signed editions. 

The base card (#6) has proven to be one of the more popular options, featuring a simple shot of Verstappen with his hands on his hips.

There’s also a more valuable version of the card seen above found in 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Edition Formula 1 sets. Numbered Refractor parallels are where the true value is derived.

4. 2020 Topps Chrome Sapphire Max Verstappen #6 (eBay)

The Sapphire edition of 2020 Topps Chrome is a premium online-exclusive blue version of the 200-card base series discussed above. Autos and inserts were excluded, but that hasn’t stopped the Sapphire cards from being some of the most valuable overall. 

The base version of the driver card (#6) has the same hands on hips image seen above. You’ll also be able to find an image variation, showing the driver while seated. Topps Chrome Sapphire has different parallels to chase, and a higher average price tag.

3. 2020 Topps Chrome Max Verstappen Auto #MV (eBay)

If you’d prefer a signed Max Verstappen card, the Chrome Autographs subset is the best place to begin. 

(Remember, there are no Sapphire Edition inserts or autographs, so this is it for signed 2020 Topps Chrome cards.)

With fewer Refractors and no Sapphire Edition to contend with, it’s hard to think of many flaws aside from the sticker autograph, rather than being on-card.

2. 2020 Topps Dynasty Max Verstappen Auto Patch #MV (eBay)

It’s going to be tough to do better than the autographed relic cards found in 2020 Topps Dynasty. 

It was the debut F1 set for the high-end brand, offering a number of premium Max Verstappen swatches. (We counted 10 different options.)

In truth, any of the Verstappen patch autos are likely to be a solid investment, although the average collector is likely to be priced out. 

Base copies that are serial numbered to 10, with a duo of rare parallels including a Gold one-of-one.

1. 2016 Top Trumps Grand Prix Heroes Max Verstappen RC (eBay)

Top Trumps cards are often disregarded, but we’d make an exception for the 2016 Grand Prix Heroes collection. As one of the earliest Verstappen cards, it can be considered as an RC of sorts. 

Be aware of the rounded edges, which are easily damaged. The same goes for the black border.

The Best Max Verstappen Cards: Buyers Guide 

The best Max Verstappen cards are a sizable investment. What do we think of the current state of the market?

For once, the earliest card is one of the more affordable options if you’re looking at ungraded copies. Otherwise, base copies of the 2020 Topps Chrome cards should be relatively cheap. 

The 2016 RC is a great option, although we’d probably stick with one of the signed relic patches if we had no budgetary constraints. Most Max Verstappen cards with a serial number already sell for big bucks. 

Best Max Verstappen Cards: Buying/Selling Advice

At the current time of writing, Verstappen is the favorite to seal a second Formula One world championship, judging by the enormity of his lead so far this season. That’s partly due to the Red Bull car, but the driver obviously plays a major role. 

Given his current pole position, it’s fair to say that hype surrounding the best Max Verstappen cards has built up rapidly since his debut. However, this time we think that it’s justified, especially if he can build up a winning streak like his rival Lewis Hamilton. 

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes that added knowledge from his years in the sport have raised Verstappen to his current level, as he thinks he is currently driving as well as he did in his championship winning 2021 campaign.

“He drove some amazing races last year under massive pressure,” explained Horner. “You think of races like Austin and so on. I think he’s just so good under pressure.

“We’ve seen it so many times this year: Miami, Baku, etc. He’s just got more experience and he’s a very complete driver.”
