Let’s discuss the best Scottie Pippen rookie cards.

A seven-time All Star, Scottie Pippen was a key member of the Chicago Bulls team who earned six NBA championships in the 1990s. Pippen famously won gold medals at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. He won the first as a member of the original Dream Team.

Arguably one of the greatest duos in NBA history along with Michael Jordan, the large 1990s Bulls fanbase ensures that Pippen’s rookie cards and early collectibles are always popular.

Here’s a roundup with the best Scottie Pippen rookie cards to collect, including a trio of options from the late 1980’s.

The Best Scottie Pippen Rookie Cards

Scottie Pippen was selected fifth overall by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 1987 NBA Draft. He quickly joined the Bulls in a trade involving a 1989 first round pick, Olden Polynice, and two future picks. (As such, Pippen’s early collectibles focus on his time spent with the Chicago Bulls.)

4. 1996-97 Skybox Premium Autographics Scottie Pippen (eBay)

We’ll begin with a card that was released almost a decade after Pippen’s initial RC seen below. The 1996-97 Skybox Premium Autographics makes the list due to being one of the earliest autographed Scottie Pippen cards. It’s popular as he didn’t sign many collectibles during his playing career. He filled his name in blue ink, while there are a couple of later Autographics cards which offer a more affordable alternative.

3. 1987-88 Entenmann’s Chicago Bulls Scottie Pippen (eBay)

1987-88 Entenmann's Chicago Bulls Scottie Pippen

It might not be as well known as the Fleer release seen below, but this 1987-88 card produced by Entenmann’s bakery is the earliest to feature Pippen playing for the Bulls. Oversized at 2-5/8″ x 4″, the reverse is blank. It was packaged as part of an 11-card set given to fans at a Chicago Bulls game. There’s also a 1988-89 card with a different action shot that shows Pippen hanging off the rim.

2. 1988-89 Panini Stickers Spanish Scottie Pippen #77 (eBay)

An option which is often disregarded by collectors who prefer the Scottie Pippen rookie card seen below, the 1988-89 Panini Spanish Sticker is a licensed option with a miniscule number of graded copies on the market. For example, here’s the PSA pop report:

As an obscure sticker set from Europe released over 30 years ago, it’s always going to be tough to locate if you’re looking at higher grades.

1. 1988-89 Fleer Scottie Pippen RC #20 (eBay)

1988-89 Fleer contains the undisputed top option if you’re looking at Scottie Pippen rookie cards. It’s a flagship set, with a close-up action shot of the Bulls star on the court.

Of course, there is a major difference in values depending on the overall condition. A duo of PSA 10 versions recently sold for roughly $2,700 apiece, while a PSA 9 can be found for $200. It features a red and black background, while the reverse spells his name as ‘Pippin’.

Scottie Pippen Rookie Cards: Buyers Guide

Here are our thoughts about the current state of the market for the best Scottie Pippen RCs.

The sticker and the 1987 XRC are relatively affordable. Otherwise, PSA 9 graded versions of the 1988-89 Fleer rookie are worth a fraction of the price of a Gem Mint copy.

It’s not like you’re especially spoiled for choice, with just one true RC to chase. 1988-89 Fleer is where we would start, locating one of the 248 copies that have managed to earn a Gem Mint grade at the current time of writing.

Scottie Pippen Rookie Cards: Final Thoughts

There’s no doubt that Pippen had a massive impact on the sport, as one of the winningest players of his era.

Pippen is a two-time inductee into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He was honored for his individual career and as a member of the “Dream Team”, winning Olympic gold along with Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Charles Barkley.

Scottie Pippen rookie cards will never be as valuable as Jordan’s options. They’re still highly collectible for fans of the era, as well as the Chicago Bulls.
