2022 Pokemon TCG: Pokemon GO Cards

Are Pokemon GO cards worth checking out?

A set which relies on a range of nostalgic hits; Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO is the latest release in 2022.

This time, it centers on the popular mobile game of the same name which used augmented reality to great effect when it launched back in 2016.

Pokémon GO is still widely played, and it’s one of the most successful mobile games of all time.

Here’s everything you need to know about the best Pokemon GO cards to collect, including key stats, and why they’re so popular in our detailed review.

Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO: Key Stats

The Pokémon GO set is a miniature release packed with some of the most popular monsters you can expect to find while playing the mobile game.

  • Release date: July 1, 2022
  • Cards in set: 78
  • Versions: Elite Trainer Box, Collection Boxes, Premium Collection, Tins
  • Average Elite Trainer Box Price: $45
  • Notes: Ditto is the most interesting card within the set because, much like Ditto in Pokémon GO, it’s disguised as another Pokémon card and you’ll have to peel it like a sticker to find the Ditto underneath

Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO: Best Cards

We’re looking at the cards as pure collectibles, that can be graded and taken care of.

To begin, we’ve listed five of the biggest hits contained in Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO, along with their current resale price and any relevant additional info about the Pokémon card.

5. Radiant Blastoise (eBay)

Introduced in the Astral Radiance expansion, Radiant Pokémon cards are identified by an exclusive foil, and feature Shiny versions of the Pokémon in question.

The Radiant Blastoise has an interesting yellow background, set against a simple image of the water Pokémon in an attacking stance. It’s not especially expensive as of now, but it’s still one of the chase cards within the set. Expect to pay anywhere between $15-$20.

4. Radiant Venusaur (eBay

Venusaur is another from the original trio of starter evolutions that has been given the Radiant treatment. This time, an assortment of pink flowers make up the background.

The Radiant Venusaur is relatively affordable at this moment in time, coming in at roughly the $10 mark. As with the others, it might be a good idea to check out Japanese versions as they’re far better to look at, with a shinier finish and a silver borderline.

3. Mewtwo VSTAR (Secret) (eBay)

This Secret Rare version of Mewtwo is next up on the list. It’s wrapped in a gold frame, with the Pokémon bursting out beyond a drawing which almost looks 3D. As with the others, the combination of the set and a popular Pokémon from the original 151 is enough to make it stand out from the rest of the set.

It’s also given a textured finish, and it’s selling for roughly $40 if you’re interested in picking up a single.

2. Radiant Charizard (eBay)

Completing the trilogy of Radiant starter evolutions, Charizard is one of the best Pokemon Go cards to find in packs. The Radiant Charizard will be the chase card for some collectors, which is fair given its extreme popularity. This time, the Pokémon is surrounded by billowing purple smoke.

As far as we can tell, it’s one of the more difficult to find in packs, although it can currently be picked up for anywhere from $30-$40.

1. Mewtwo V (Alt-Art) (eBay)

The second Mewtwo card to make the list features a callback to some of the original promotional videos, featuring the psychic Pokémon as it soars amongst a city background.

If you’d prefer something different, the Alternate Art Mewtwo V card is certainly a unique option, with great long-term potential. Mewtwo V is currently the most valuable card from the set right now, selling for roughly $60.

Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO: What We Got

We’ve always been unlucky when it comes to Elite Trainer Boxes, and Pokémon GO was no exception. Once again, we missed out on any hits mentioned above, with the best card arguably the Mewtwo which was individually wrapped.

For us at least, it makes sense to stick to singles when looking at Pokémon cards to add to the collection.

Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO: Checklist

You’ll be able to find a downloadable PDF version of the Pokémon GO checklist here. There aren’t many cards to look out for, and we’ve added a screenshot below.

With only 78 Pokémon cards to chase, it shouldn’t be difficult to complete the set.

Pokémon TCG: Pokemon GO Cards: Box Prices

A Pokémon TCG box is still fairly cheap, and can be grabbed from many retailers, including directly from the Pokémon Center. That’s to be expected, especially so soon after the initial release date.

You’ll also be able to find sealed boxes on the likes of eBay and StockX.

Pokemon GO Cards: Summary

Pokemon GO is an interesting concept, with a smaller base set and a lot of crossover appeal.

It’s a fun collection, but we don’t expect much in terms of investment potential, aside from the top five and a few select others.

Boxes seem to be available freely for now, and the same is true for the majority of hits from the set.

Unless you’re addicted to opening packs, we’d stick with singles if you want to add a special Mewtwo or a rare Radiant Pokémon to your collection.

Pokémon GO rating: 4/5
