Interested in finding out more about the best Rick Mahorn rookie cards on the market? There’s a sole option to seek out from 1981 Topps sets, and it’s affordable, even when looking at flawless versions. Here’s everything you need to know to get started.

Rick Mahorn is the first athlete/coach in history to have won a championship in the NBA, WNBA, and BIG3.

He won an NBA Championship as part of “The Bad Boys” in 1989, was an assistant coach for two WNBA Championship teams (2006, 2008), and won the first ever BIG3 Championship in 2017 as a head coach.

The Best Rick Mahorn Rookie Cards

There’s only one Rick Mahorn RC, found in 1981-82 Topps Basketball.

1. 1981-82 Topps Rick Mahorn Rookie Card #98 (eBay)

1981-82 Topps Basketball was split into three separate regions. (National, East, and Midwest.) Each set was shipped to different parts of the US, with the East and Midwest cards being slightly rarer than the National release.

Mahorn is found in the East set. It benefits from a superb action shot, with his name, team, and position found on the bottom left corner. There are over 100 PSA 10 grades, so it’s not difficult to find in pristine condition.

It’s also pretty affordable, especially considering it’s a PSA 10 copy of the only rookie card featuring an NBA championship winning player. The last sale we could find was for just under $110 back in October 2021, but it’s likely to be a bit cheaper in 2023:

Why are Rick Mahorn RCs so cheap?

There are heaps of ungraded copies on the market, and there isn’t much demand for his rookie card. (Consider, any serious Rick Mahorn collector is likely to have a PSA 10 copy of his RC stored somewhere.)

He’s not in the Hall of Fame, while the majority of fans care little for BIG3, or the WNBA for that matter. It might not be fair, but it’s the truth.

Rick Mahorn Rookie Cards: Final Thoughts

Rick Mahorn was a key part of a championship winning team, teaming up with Bill Laimbeer to great effect. Of course, values will never compare to the best players from the era, but that’s good news if you just want to pick up a copy of the 1981 RC for a fair price.
